Why Lais

Research and literature in History, Sociology and Science suggests that humans have taken the onus of passing on “knowledge” to each succeeding generations. Each generation experiences an increase in the amount of knowledge, progress in technology, and over time increased human interaction. The development in various fields of science, commerce and business couple with he advent and spread of the internet, implies that in the twenty-first century, we also have witnessed a rapid globalization of mankind, which has brought the different parts of the world much closer via new communication tools. In view of these changing circumstances, the content and process of education must be optimized for students to interpret past knowledge better to understand the present, and further help them foster thinking to face the unknown challenges of the future. At Little Angels, this lasting effort to be dynamic, relevant and progressive is designed to prolong the legacy of man and is a vital statistic.

The LAIS curriculum had been first created, before school inception in 2001 while targeting 2 years olds and later, over time has been continuously refined and made relevant to be a dynamic document. The curriculum also takes into account the geographical locale, the cultural context, social circumstances, and the requirement of the market (Japan) very carefully. In delivery, the LAIS curriculum regards the content, method of teaching or the relevance continuously and is refined to best suit the individual student.

Education at Little Angels

LAIS believes that education is a life long journey; that humans learn as children and adults alike. LAIS believes in the importance of institutional learning; therefore, learning encompasses all the facets of the school – the management, the administration, the faculty, the students, and the parents. At Little Angels, each individual is a lifelong learner. The school also learns and grows as an institution that focuses on educating children. Hence, the school believes education of children should be student centered, active and interactive, and must involve the social world of the child and the community.

LAIS thus affirms the following Learning Objectives :

  • Learning to Know: Students learn how to find, evaluate, sort, interpret, and connect information.
  • Learning to Do: Students learn to manage change and diversity, and develop skills for self-directed learning
  • Learning to Live Together: Students learn how to relate to many more people, in many more roles and using many different media..
  • Learning to Be: Students learn to integrate the other three learning objectives to further his/her potential – memory, reasoning, aesthetic sense, physical capabilities, and communication skills.

LAIS endeavor to provide a meaningful learning experience, to achieve the Learning Objectives. Each learning experience should: be based on the student’s interests, and grow out of their existing knowledge; support of the student’s development; help develop new skills; add to the student’s understanding of the world; and prepare the student to live more fully.

The learning environment is conducive to foster inquisitive minds. The books, songs, games, multi-media tools carefully picked up from around the world are used to help the young minds understand and absorb. The students are encouraged to teach what they have learnt to junior grades. This helps the students to achieve a deeper understanding of the subjects. Self-expression, independent thinking and creativity are encouraged and appreciated.
